2009 Porsche Boxster S [Spied]

Porsche is planning to unveil an updated version of its Boxster roadster in January, and our spy photographers have captured the first images of the new car while testing in the U.S. Although the updates won’t radically change the look of the Boxster, some changes will be made to bring its look more in line with the new 911.

Seen for the first time in the U.S., the Boxster is sporting new LED taillights and LED daytime running lights. The entry-level Porsche will also get a restyled front bumper, reshaped air intakes and a new rear bumper. The headlights have a small strip of camo along the bottom, so we can probably expect a change there as well.

It’s not clear what, if any, powertrain updates the Boxster S will receive.

Still one of the, if not the best, roadster on the road. And for all of you out there that is going to say this is not a real Porsche, keep in mind that it shared 86% of the same design and parts as a 911, and will outhandle the 911 or 911 S on a track due to its lighter weight and mid-engine design. Still a top 10 car on my list.

Love this car but a more progressive restyling would be nice. If it has one weakness it is its styling.

Not sure why the Boxster has not stolen more sales from the 911. It looks like a 911, the engine is in a better spot than the 911, handles better than a 911, insurance is cheaper than a 911, running costs are lower than a 911, costs less than a 911. The only reason you would buy a 911 is for the Turbo or AWD (option), or you are that insecure of yourself, and think you need a 911 so you can get chicks. The 911 is the Trans-Am of today. And, yes, I have driven several of them, and Boxsters, too.

Porsche does some subtle facelifts, but it always backs them up with proper spec changes.
I hope this gets the usual Porsche facelift treatment: 20bhp bump in power for all models :D

=========>>LLN says that the car has a small strip of camo on the bottom of the headlights. If you look closely, that black strip goes all the way around the entire perimeter of the headlights. In other words they will be HuGe, sorta like the 996 911’s. They will look nice though. Looks like they’re bringing the head and tail lights more in line with the Panamera’s on the ‘09Boxters and 911’s.

Earlier I talked about the icon-ess of the 911. My dad has a white Boxster with the hardtop on it, and I really have to say that unless the 911 is yellow and the Boxster dark green, with the hard top, the Boxster turns more heads than the 911. I’m afraid that the statement ” The only reason a man buys a Boxster is because he can’t afford a 911″ is true, but I Insist, the Boxster has more cache than anyone who hasn’t driven one can imagine.

If Porsche is smart, we’ll see Direct Injection Engine and DSG or dubblekrakenhausen (duel clutch) Gear box !

Do there cars EVER really change? I couldn’t tell the difference between this and one sitting on the showroom floor right now.

=========>>DialM, that’s because the one in the pictures has camoflauge on it to make it look like one on the showroom floor[almost]. Duuhh. The difference in this car and one on a showroom floor is UNDERNEATH the camo. Duhh. When the camo comes off you’ll see the changes.
